本研究綜合文獻記載、現代操作人員與筆者的實際經驗及操作心得，將影響掛軸翹曲的因子概分為鑲料收縮、上板天數、下板濕度、覆背方式、一次上板與二次上板及上蠟砑光等6種，並針對這些變因進行各種量測。其中鑲料下板放置間隔時間及鑲料經緯方向收縮變因部分進行鑲料尺寸收縮率量測。鑲料與紙張不同方向搭配變因量測鑲料翹曲高度。鑲料緯線方向平行或是垂直掛軸長度方向鑲黏、上板天數、下板濕度、覆背方式、一次上板二次上板及上蠟砑光進行裱件翹曲高度量測。上蠟砑光的部分另外進行紙張剛度、平滑度、粗糙度、厚度及密度量測。研究結果顯示鑲料經緯方向的取材使用影響裱件作品翹曲與否至為關鍵，此點在古代書籍及現代裝裱操作人員訪談中皆未

提及的因子。經由實驗結果發現，以緯線方向平行裱件作品高度(長度)方向翹曲最少。鑲料後面托黏的紙張如果收縮較大方向與鑲料緯線方向平行進行托黏，可以減緩將來裱件作品翹曲高度。另外鑲料下板後宜令其乾燥收縮至少一天再進行裁切及鑲黏工序，則裱件收縮會較為一致。裱件作品上板繃平二次可以減緩翹曲高度，為一值得推廣的操作方法。此乃因為第二次上板繃平時裱件作品含水量少，紙張膨脹少，將來收縮應力少所致。上蠟砑光可以減少覆背紙對畫心的摩擦。砑光後也可以有效舒緩裱件作品乾燥的收縮應力，增加裱件作品緻密度，減少厚度，剛度下降，使裱件作品更為柔軟，降低翹曲高度，利於書畫裱件收捲。在第3天到14天的上板天數中，翹曲高度跟上

板天數並未呈現正相關定趨勢。從第14天上板天數增加後，翹曲趨勢開始穩定，且隨上板天數增加，裱件作品越平整。上板天數最少要14天裱件作品較為穩定，若上板達1個月以上更佳。覆背操作方式中以乾覆背的裱件作品整體翹曲平整度優於座覆背，乃因上板時裱件作品含水量少，紙張及鑲料膨脹小，乾燥後收縮應力小所致。下板時環境濕度對掛軸翹曲影響並無一定趨勢。在本實驗相對濕度50%、60%及70%的三個條件中以相對濕度60%下板掛軸翹曲較緩和。若是掛軸本身各層之間的收縮應力差異小，濕度對掛軸影翹曲的影響程度就會減少。經由研究結果顯示，未來裱褙時鑲料緯線宜平行掛軸長度方向，覆背需要二次上板，上板天數至少14天，下板後需要

上蠟砑光，以使裱件更為平整及利於收捲。
